RESEARCH TOPICS

Development and optimisation of culture conditions for microorganisms and/or biomolecules production:

My research activities focus on microbial physiology and kinetic and stoeckiometric studies of bioprocesses. I designed innovative nutritional approaches to characterize the physiological behavior of strains in well-controlled conditions in flasks and bioreactor cultures. The objectives were either the optimization of biomass production or the biosynthesis of biomolecules of great potential.

I also work on the development of an innovative production system of secondary metabolites by a fungal strain, Aspergillus tubingensis. The fungal extract exerts a great antioxidant activity that could be used for several industrial applications as antioxidants substitute. The production of these secondary metabolites is decoupled from vegetative growth and linked to sporulation of the filamentous fungi. The main objectives of my work are to study the key phenomena affecting the microbial physiology in submerged fermentation and to deduce optimal culture and metabolites synthesis conditions (nutritional, biochemical, physical) at different scales.
